Do you have to pour water first before putting soil for this item or you can pour water on soil after putting soil?

Once the garden bed is fully assembled you can add water before or after adding soil. Once soil is added and you water it any extra water would go into the reservoir.

It looks like something needs to lay on top of top tray. Do you just pour soil on top of the tray? Or do you place cardboard on the 1 inch elevated plastic pieces and then pour the soil over the cardboard?

Once this garden bed is fully assembled it is ready to have soil added. There are no additional items that are needed.
