8 Ways to Jazz Up Your Outdoor Balcony

Just because your outdoor balcony space is small, doesn’t mean it can’t be stylish and functional. Here are 8 outdoor balcony ideas to help take it to the next level.

If you have a small outdoor space like a balcony, tiny patio, or even a small patch of grass, it might seem like there isn’t much you can do to decorate and enjoy it. However, this couldn’t be further from the truth! If you’re ready to take your small outdoor space to the next level, here are eight tips to help you.

1. Plant a small raised garden

Just because your space is limited doesn’t mean you can’t still use your green thumb! The Urban Bloomer from Keter is the perfect place to plant herbs, vegetables, or even flowers.

In addition to being perfect for a small balcony, it also includes a water gauge, a drainage system, and a water reservoir. So, it will help you know when your plants are being over or underwatered. It’s also super easy to assemble and it has a beautiful wood-like appearance without all of the challenges of a wooden planter. Fill one of these small raised garden beds with your favorite plants and watch them bring your small space to life!

2. Add a small outdoor rug

Outdoor rugs come in so many colors and sizes these days that you’re sure to find something you love that’s small enough to fit your outdoor space. Sizing is key, though. Don’t get a rug that’s too big or it’ll make your small space look cramped and cluttered. Instead, go with a rug that covers a smaller area. Get one that covers about three-fourths of your space but leaves some of the outdoor floor in view. You can also get an even smaller rug that just goes under your outdoor furniture, but leaves more of your balcony or patio exposed.

Since the rug will be outside, you’ll occasionally have to vacuum or sweep it off. Shampooing rugs can be tricky so bonus points if the one you choose is washable! It’s far easier to care for if you can just shake it off and throw it in the washing machine.

If your outdoor space doesn’t have a hard surface like a balcony or patio, this tip probably won’t work for you since you won’t want to kill your grass or put a rug directly on the dirt.

3. Place compact seating

The seating choice for your small space might be the most important decision that you make when decorating your balcony or patio. You’ll want to get exact measurements before you buy anything. So, make sure you use a tape measure and write all of the measurements down so you won’t forget. Once you find furniture you like, take out your tape measure and look at the sizing of the furniture before you buy anything. Since it has to be so precise in smaller spaces, you’ll need to be extra careful.

Your best bets are smaller chair sets like a bistro set or even Keter’s Rio Patio Set. This set comes with two modern-looking chairs and a small table. The set won’t ever need to be taken inside because it’s durable and weather resistant. So, even in colder wetter months, it’ll be fine outside. This patio set is ideal for taking in the sunset, people-watching, or talking with a friend.

If you’d prefer something without a table, a small outdoor couch might be perfect. You’ll probably need to go with a modular sectional for flexibility, but it could be a very fun and cozy way to jazz up your balcony.

4. Add cozy touches

Once you’ve figured out your seating, add some cozy touches. Things like outdoor throw pillows, blankets, and cushions can make your space so much more comfortable. Make sure you go with darker colors or Scotchgard things like pillows and outdoor cushions so they don’t fade or get too dirty. It’s also good to have a place to store these things because if the wind picks up, all of the cozy touches could blow away.

5. Add small storage

If you’re looking for outdoor storage, Keter deck boxes are the way to go. Boxes such as the Capri Box, City Box, or the Marvel Box are the perfect sizes for a small space. These boxes all have a beautiful, classic, wood-like appearance and come in several colors. They’re perfect for storing outdoor cushions, gardening equipment, and other outdoor items. The small deck boxes are durable and will keep your items safe and dry.

6. Put in new lighting

One thing that will really elevate your small space and take up very little room is adding string lights. They’re elegant and so easy to hang with zip ties or hooks. If you have a covered patio, you can string the lights around the top. If not, you can string them along a railing. It’s easiest to get solar-powered string lights so you don’t have to worry about having an outlet or plugging the lights in every time you go outside. String lights also make it so you can use your outdoor space more easily in the evenings!

7. Install hanging planters

If you don’t have room on the ground to plant anything and you’re not looking to do a raised garden bed, consider hanging planters. The round hanging planters from Keter come in a set of two and have a pretty rattan look. They have sturdy chains and drainage plugs, too. So, you’ll know your plants are drained and not going to fall over. Adding a few hanging planters with flowers can really bring your balcony or patio to life.

8. Always have cool drinks

Last, but certainly not least, always have cool drinks ready to serve. There’s nothing that ups the mood of guests in your space like having cool drinks. So, add the Classic Cool Bar or the Go Bar Blue to your outdoor space. They will keep your drinks cool and can be used as small drink tables when you entertain.

Hopefully, you’re feeling even better about your outdoor space. Just because it’s small doesn’t mean it can’t be stylish and functional.
